Optimum Peace Lilly Care

Question
I have two new beautiful peace lillies.  Can you provide any recommendations to keep them full and looking great (i.e., plant lights, type of fertilizer and frequency, watering frequency (I understand that they do not like chlorinated water, so I am using distilled water instead.)?  Thanks for your help.

Pete

Answer
Chlorinated Water is the least of your worries, Pete.  You can use up the distilled water, then switch to regular tap water.  Your Peace Lily collection is not so picky.  They will do fine with your chlorinated H2O.  I have never seen a Peace Lily that suffered from Chlorine exposure.  Never.

Peace Lily ("Spathiphyllum wallisii" to botanists) is on every top 10 houseplants list. Please confirm for me that your Peace Lily looks like the one pictured at 'Evergrowing Tips on Houseplant Care':

Botanists call this plant the 'Spathiphyllum'.

Spathiphyllums are tropical plants that naturally grow under the protective canopy of tall trees, in the shade.  They cannot take bright light, and they cannot take cold weather.

These are easy plants.  They will survive temperature exposure down to 40 degrees F.  But they will be much happier if their night temps hover near 65 degrees F.  By day, 90 degrees F is weather a Spathiphyllum will love to call Home.  So if you live someplace HOT, growing one of these will be even easier.

Fertilize once in a while -- a Fish Emulsion or other Organic fertilizer is best.  More important than fertilizer is the way you water it.  Make sure your plant dries out between waterings; then drench the soil with room temperature to lukewarm water.

There really is nothing simpler.   Biggest problem people have with these is a tendency to overwater -- too much TLC.  This is a plant that you can leave alone and enjoy.  No fuss, no muss.  Nothing complicated here.

Any questions, please ask.  Very easy Answers with these plants.
