schefflera spots

Question
I have two schefflera plants...
1. It is very small (see photo) and another a bigger one ...the small I bought about 8 months ago and small one 6 months ago. I changed the soil in the small one but not the pot about few months ago.

I started getting brown spots on "new leaves" and they fall off when I touch them. I am keeping them next to a west facing window in the kitchen (see the picture)... If I am right I kept them next to each other for a little while and now I see the same problem with the big one. I water them only when the top soil gets dry ~7-10days. I have been watering from above and the leaves get wet as I leave it under the kitchen sink tap.

Thank you for your help.
Chakra

Answer
Thank you for the photos. The taller Schefflera arboricola looks fine and healthy. A few yellow leaves are normal.

The smaller Schefflera is reacting to the soil change. No doubt the root hairs were damaged when the soil was replaced and that is causing the leaf spotting. If you water properly and provide adequate light, then the root hairs may gradually grow back and the plant will gradually recover.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.

Hi Chakra,

I have not received any photos from you, so I cannot see what you are seeing. Send your photos to me at [email protected]

Changing the soil of plants is never a good idea, so that may be part of the problem.
