Cataractarum and Majesty Palm Trees

Question
I have 5 Palms 2 Cataractarums and 3 Majesty Palms. Actually I'm not sure which is which but all are doing great even the one with a problem. I have just seen on the lower stems what seems to look like white frosting. I can rub it off but I know it doesn't belong there. Is there some kind of spray I need to put on . I do not see any bugs. They are all out by our pool under an awning but get lots of light. I water once about every 10 days which seems to be doing OK. We live in a wooded area and have well water and our water has always been good. Can you help?
Thanks

Answer
Lois,

It sounds like a fungal problem. I would try Lysol spray immediately then head for a garden center such as Lowes and look for Neem Oil. It is a natural produce from the Neem tree in South America and acts as both an insecticide and fungicide on plants needing either. It will not harm pets or children. Mix it with water according to the instructions and  spray it daily for a week, then twice a week for 3-6 more weeks. After that watch closely for signs of a recuring infection. Good luck.
