my fiddle leaf fig

Question
I have a similar problem to the one you addressed some time ago. I had a plant sitter as well (for about 2 weeks) and when i came back all the leaves of my fiddle leaf fig had fallen off or were totally brown. I suspect it was due to under watering or the fact that the heating in my house had been turned off for the duration- the climate change may have shocked it. it is a pretty big tree (about 6 feet) but now only has two lonely leaves and in the past 2 months that I have been home again, it has shown no signs of growing new ones. Now my question is whether there is anything I can do to encourage new leaf growth..

Answer
Hi Patricia,
The main thing you can do to encourage new growth is to prune the plant back. The plant should come back strongly even if you prune it heavily. Don't prune off more that 25% of the plant though.
Right now the plant is in it's dormant/resting cycle. The plant should go into a active growing cycle about the middle of March. Fertilize the plant lightly when it starts growing new leaves. You can prune the plant now or wait until closer to the time it starts actively growing.

I hope this helps. If you have any questions or need additional information please don't hesitate to ask.
     Thanks
        Tracy
