jasmine plants

Question
how do you prune a jasmine plant. I'm completely new to plants so use uneducated plant language please thanks so much  jasmine

Answer
Jasmine,

Do not prune your jasmine plants until just after they have stopped blooming then cut them back by 50% using sharp pruning shears to a shape that you are happy with. This plant blooms on old wood so it will grow all year and bloom next year about the same time it bloomed this year on the new growth that it grows right after it finishes blooming this year. If you wait and prune it 3 months later you will be pruning next years blooms off. That is why you have to prun it immediately after it finishes blooming and cut it back hard, by at least 50-60% You can put a stake or trellis in the pot for it to vine on for next years  blooms.  Other than timing and use sharp pruners it's simple just cut and pitch the cuttings. It will grow back fuller. If you have more questions feel free to write again. Good luck.
