Massangeana Cane and a ponytail plam

Question
Can you please tell me what type of potting soil you would use for Massangeana Cane And a Pony tail plam Thanks.

Answer
Hello,

I use a straightforward potting soil for all my plants and mostly they do very well.  I don't know the names of brands in the States as I am in southern Spain. I buy a good brand of soilless compost which is based on peat so, when I repot I do not compress the soil too much as this impairs aeration, which of course is necessary for plant roots.

Do you get John Innes compost?  This is a soil based compost and can be used for all plants also.

It really is a matter of taste - the soiless compost is very light and you might not find it suitable if your plants are very large - but you could put them in clay pots so they will not topple over and add some sharp sand to the soil - you can buy sharp sand from your garden store.

I hope the above information is of help to you.
