QuestionWhile I was on vacation, my house sitter missed watering this one! About 1/2 of
the thick leaves have crinkled up a bit and gotten soft and pliable, but not brown
or falling off. Is the something to use that would rehydrate them? I tried putting
that section of vine in water. No luck.
Thanks!
AnswerHi Peggy,
Plants receive water through their root systems, so all you can do is re-wet the soil and allow the roots to slowly absorb the water. In cases of severe drought, some of the roots may have died back so that your Hoya might not be able to rehydrate all of the shriveled stems and leaves.
Sometimes completely dried out soil is hard to re-wet, much like a dried out sponge. So make sure when you water that the entire rootball gets saturated.
Be patient and do NOT contemplate repotting or using fertilizer. Re-wetting the soil is all you can do and then it is up to nature to take its course.
