worms in soil

Question
hi! i bought a songs of india plant about 2-3 weeks ago & it was in a pretty big ,cheap quality platic pot.i wanted to r-poy it in a nice ceramic pot & i did so  2 days ago.after it was planted in new pot,the xtra soil that was left over (all of it did not fit in the new pot),i noticed a bunch of small worms,or sum kind of bug that is kind of whitish crawling around in the leftover soil & they were  kind of hard & they seem to ball up wen touched.
Also, the soil has a bunch of wat it looks like, small balls of styrofoam mixed in the soli & there is also sum small green balls of sumthing in there? is that sum decorative pebbles or sumthing bad in my soil? wat should i do with the plant? the about 2-3 leaves are turning yellow.does this have anything to do with the worms in the soil?
wat should i do with the plant that is in the new pot now?
there is 1 nickel-size drainage hole in the bottom.

Answer
Hi Kandee, Go to your local garden center and let them recommend an insecticide to kill the soil insects.  The worms will not be a problem.  The little round things are timed release fertilizer and perlite, a soil conditioner.  The yellow leaves are probably from the root disruption in transplanting and/or incorrect watering.  Be careful not to over water.  Jim
