mass cane

Question
Are mass cane plants poisionious?  I have two border collies. I saw
the plant at a local Lowes. Thanks, Jean Starnes

Answer
Hi Jean
Sorry it has taken me so long to answer your question (been having computer problems).
The ASPCA does list Mass Canes as being poisonous to dogs and cats. Mass Cane is a member of the Dracaena family and there are several types of Dracaena that are considered poisonous.
The ASPCA website has a list of houseplants that are known to be poisonous to cats and dogs. It would be a good idea to check that list on their website before deciding to bring any new plant into your home.

Also keep in mind that there really are no 'safe' houseplants. Any plant can cause harm to children and animals if chewed or ingested. No matter if it is considered poisonous or not. Even plants that are considered 'safe' and nonpoisonous can cause stomach upset, skin rash, lip/tongue swelling or could cause a potentially fatal allergic reaction. Especially in young children, puppies and/or kittens.
It is always best to keep all houseplants in a place out of reach of children and pets.

I hope this helps. If you have any questions or need additional information please don't hesitate to ask.
     Thanks
