moss growing in pot

Question
I have just recently purchased a young cephalotus follicularis from you. In the 3-inch pot it has been growing what looks like sphagnum moss threw out the soil, Is this ok, should I let it continue to grow. The plant looks GREAT.

Answer
Hi Ken,

Moss is somewhat ubiquitous around our nursery.  It won't harm the Cephalotus, but it will certainly grow faster than it.  As the moss gets larger, you can pluck it out of the soil.  In about a 6-12 months, your plant should be large enough for another repotting.  At that time, you can remove all of the moss from your pot and replace the soil with fresh soil.

Good growing!
