Webs on my indoor carnivorous plants

Question
I am just starting to get into growing carnivorous plants. I have a Sarracenia Scarlet Belle, a Sarracenia Judith Hindle and a Venus Fly Trap. Right now, I am growing them indoors because I live in an apartment with no deck. I have noticed small webs on the traps and pitchers. Do I have an infestation? I haven't seen any bugs or spiders. Are these mites? If I do, how do I treat the plants? Thanks for your help. I live in Cleveland, Ohio and we are just starting our winter season.

Answer
Hi Joel,

Yes, spider mites is a problem with any plant grown indoors.
Firstly, spray your plants with a pesticide containing an active ingredient called permethrin.  This compounds is effective in killing off spider mites.  Follow the directions provided by the manufacturer.  You may need to reapply the pesticide in about 7 days to ensure that any mites that hatched after they spraying are also killed off.

Good growing!
