P. moranensis dormancy

Question
I have a P. moranensis, and am a bit confused about the dormancy. When I want it to go dormant do I let the soil get bone dry? If I should keep it damp what would be the best way of doing that?

Answer
Hi Tyler,

Let your plant guide you regarding dormancy.  If the plant is kept in a very sunny and warm location, it will often grow throughout the winter months.  When your plant is ready to go dormant, it will produce smaller thicker leaves.  When you see this occur, decrease the amount of water you give it.  Generally, keep the soil just barely moist. Avoid letting it go bone dry because there is the risk of forgetting about the plant.  It can tolerate bone dry conditions, but not for very long!

Just keep your plant in about 1/4 inch of standing water.  When the water is gone from the dish, let it go dry for a day or two before watering again.

Good growing!
