I need help on constructing my highland terrarium.

Question
QUESTION: I currrently have a lowland terrarium which is enclosed except for 10% of the top opened.  I have taken those plants out now for windosill growing.  I have recently received highland nepenthes plants and I need suggestions on a terrarium which gets sufficient temperature swings.  I thought about drilling some holes on the side which allows cold air to come through at night since my room gets pretty cold at night while keeping the humidity high.  What do you think and what kinds of things do you suggest?

ANSWER: Hi Jake,

I don't think you need to do anything special.  If you have artificial lights on the tank, that will bring the temperature up during the day, and when they are off at night the temperature will drop.  The partial covering like you have on the lowland tank is fine.  If your room is in the 50's - 60's at night that's perfect.  Just spray them sometimes before you go to bed.  If you really want to get fancy you could put one of those ultrasonic humidifiers in the tank to create fog.  People who raise frogs use them.  They also look really cool.  Here's an example:  http://www.nextag.com/exo-terra-fogger/search-html

QUESTION: so if i get the ultrasonic humidifier do i turn it on during the day or the night

Answer
Hi Jake,

Turning on the humidifier at night would closely mimic what it's like in a highland rainforest.  The relative humidity goes up at night, and fog is often present.
