help idenfy my napenthes

Question

N.unknown
I have had the little guy for about 1 year. I saved it form a lowes' store. it was half dead, and only a dollar, when i went to repot him he had no roots. i read that it still could be saved.  he now looks good has roots and is putting out small pitchers that are green with blood red spots. i emailed the place that distributes the plants and they said it could be one of the four plants that they grow; ventricosa, madagascariensis, sanguinea, or judith finn
the plant has white hairs on the leaves, the leaves are shiny, the top of the pitcher is just opening, the pitcher is 1.5" tall and .5" wide. any help would be nice.

Answer
Hi Shane,

Based on your photograph , I'd say your plant is N. rafflesiana.  I know that wasn't part of your list, but it is part of the grow list of the company that produces these plants.  The nursery that supplies the plants to Lowe's actually gets their plants from another nursery.  That original nursery pretty much produces all of the Nepenthes you might find at large chain stores.  Even if the nursery that you communicated with doesn't carry N. rafflesiana, it's likely that the species slipped in during a mass shipment.  I've also ordered plants from the original nursery in the past, and I've seen plants in my order that I didn't order.  Your plant has the features most consistent with N. rafflesiana.

It's a lowland species that likes bright conditions and warm temperatures.  Depending on where you live, it'll grow well in brightly lit window.  For more information about growing lowland Nepenthes, read our care sheet online:

Good growing!
