problems with pitchers

Question

judith hindle
I have a judith hindle and an areolata that i ordered from you. The pitchers about half way up are like a brownish. they are in peat and get full sun outside. rain water is usually what they get but if its dry they get distilled water. i live in indiana. and here are some photos. please help. i will try to send you more on face book

Answer
Hi Lucas,

Thanks for sending a photo.  What you have happening here is what is called "pitcher plant indigestion".  Your plants have caught so many insects they get a bacterial decay going on in the pitchers.  It may look unsightly, but it is normal.  If a leaf dies, just cut it off.  It will make new ones since it's getting so much food.

Good Growing!
