when it goes into dormancy and the leaves and traps die and turn black should i start picking the dead ones out or wait until spring when it comes out of dormancy? thank you.

Hello Shaughn,

It is generally best to clip off any dead leaves and sections of dead leaves as they die off. You will have less a chance of having mold problems on the dead leaves spreading to the still living tissues of the Venus Flytrap rhizome while it is dormant.
