Heliamphora pitcher

Question
This is one of those times I wish I could enclose a picture to explain but here goes.   My heliamphora has a single pitcher that is less then .5 inches wide, and 3 inches long.  At about the height where the rest of the pitchers are at it narrows to what looks like a stem about .25 inches wide.

Why would it grow a pitcher like that, and only one of them?  It's been that way for 3 months so it looks like it's an adult pitcher.

Answer
Hi John,

It's not unusual for a plant to occassionally produce a deformed pitcher.  Over the years I've seen all kinds of odd things develop on plants.  Some are just more prone to it than others.  From your description, it also sounds like this may have been a flower stalk trying to develop that just stopped.  I've noticed odd pitchers and leaves on plants that start a new shoot.  As the growth ages the leaves become normal.

Good Growing!
