Feeding

Question
Can I feed night crawlers worms to an american pitcher plant ( Judith hindle)

Answer
A nightcrawler earthworm would not normally be part of the diet of a Sarracenia, which would usually include flying insects and perhaps ants, but I don't believe a nightcrawler would harm a North American pitcher plant.

Regarding damage to the pitchers (if you are worried about that), Sarracenia pitchers if overfull of insects or other captured or fed prey, can sometimes dry and that particular leaf (pitcher) may die. However, this will not harm the plant as a whole, and the nutrition absorbed from the contents of the pitcher probably more than compensates for the death of that leaf. All leaves have finite lifespans though perennials such as Sarracenia continue to live. The important thing is what the leaf contributes to the plant before it dies, in the way of photosynthesis and digested prey. I had a beautiful Sarracenia leucophylla a few years ago and every one of its pitchers became stuffed with local flies (I live in a region of dairies and cattle farming) and died, but the plant itself was fine and the subsequent growth was very strong and vigorous.
