Pinguicula grandiflora

Question
Hello! I'm not actually growing P. grandiflora, but I'm wondering if it is a perennial. I was planning to put it in a bog garden alongside American pitcher plants, sundews, and flytraps, and I don't want to have to replace it every year. If it is not a perennial, could you mention some other temperate perennial butterworts?

Thanks,
Dave

Answer
Hi Dave,

Yes, this European species is a perennial and grows similarly to Pinguicula macroceras found on the West Coast of the United States.  The leaves get very large, so you'll need to give this plant a bit of space.  You should also shelter it from the hot summer sun, so grow it behind tall Sarracenia that will provide shade for the plant.

Good growing!
