Venus flytraps question

Question

Venus fly trap
Allexperts,

I have a question about if you can cut the roots of the plant, if their roots are
coming out of the bottom of the bottom.   The other question I have is,can this
plant go from this dome to the outside will that have any bad effects  on the overall
health of the plant.  Or should just stay inside, and hopefully go outside in the
spring.   I have attached a photo of the plant. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Weylin

Answer
Hi Weylin,

Thanks for sending the photo.  I wouldn't intentionally damage or cut roots if you don't need to.  Flytraps will recover if you do, but it slows them down.  If you're doing a simple transplant, you shouldn't need to.  The roots will often just slide through the holes in the pot.

You should harden off the plant to take it out of the dome.  Just open it up a small amount, then increase the opening gradually over a week or two.  After that time it can be outside the dome.

Since we are into winter already, just put it in a bright window for the winter.  Keep it just damp, not soaking wet.  With natural daylight, short days, and cool temperatures in the window it will probably begin going dormant.

Good Growing!
