Terra cotta pot question.

Question
Allexperts,

I have question about what I can use to plug the hole so that water can come out.  Can I you a paper towel instead of Sphagnum Moss? Is there anything else I can use? I'm just wondering. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Weylin Callery

Answer
Hi Weylin,

A paper towel would probably work just fine.  You're just looking for something that will keep soil media from coming out since terracotta pots have big holes.  We use sphagnum moss because it also wicks up water.  I've also used cones from evergreen trees, or just put a rock in the bottom of the pot that blocks the hole, but still allows water to run out.

Good Growing!
