Sarracenia on the decline

Question
Hello - My specific question relates to Sarracenia 'Adrian Slack' but also in general to outdoor growing in large minibogs via giant pots.

I received a division of this plant and it sent up a flower which I cut.  The first pitcher reached roughly 6 inches and then started developing what resembled burn marks on the side of the pitcher.  The tips of the growth point also starting browning. I cut the first pitcher off fearing some sort of infection and it sent up a second pitcher which is growing extremely slow.  The growth point is also starting to lose its color.

As stated they are outdoors 24/7 and I live in Central Texas providing only RO water.  The media is peat and perlite.

Answer
Hi Phil,

This almost sounds like there is fertilizer in the media.  What was your source of peat and perlite?  Did you plant any other plants in the same mix?  Also, check the rhizome for any botrytis mold.  We lost one of these last year to fungus; they seem more susceptible than other Sarracenia.  If you find mold, you may need to treat with a systemic fungicide to save it.  A product like Bayer 3 in 1 works well.

Let me know what you find out.

Good Growing!
