What should I do?

Question
Dewy pine
Dewy pine
QUESTION: Allexperts,

Hey I have a question concerning Dewy Pine I had the plant outside and the base of the plant got burned. What should I do?   I was thinking of cutting the plant back a bit so it could re grow itself.  I now have the plant inside.   I have attached a picture.  If there's anything else you need help with please let me know. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Weylin

ANSWER: Hi Weylin,

Don't cut it back.  Dewy Pines don't always respond well to this the way sundews will.  In your photo I'm not really seeing much burn.  Dewy Pines are used to having very warm sunny conditions, so chances are you just needed to let it adapt to being outside.  Just keep the soil on the damp side until it looks acclimated.  If it's been in lower light conditions, start by putting it in a place where it will get morning sun, but is shaded after about one in the afternoon.  After a week of that it should be fine for full sun.  Our Dewy Pines are at their best during the summer heat, and 90's are common in July here.

QUESTION: Allexperts,

The Dewy Pine looked liked it was damaged.   The plant was hanging to one side.  So i just propped it used soil as a stand to get the plant back up,and brought back inside. Put it under lights.  Could I use stakes to keep it up right? Will the plant recover?   Do you have any other suggestions?  As Always thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Weylin

Answer
Hi Weylin,

Staking it up will help.  Keeping it under bright artificial light is a good plant until the plant is larger.  You will know very quickly if it's going to recover or not.  Drosophyllum doesn't tend to "limp along" then die.  The tend to go quickly or recover.  If it starts getting dewy again, try feeding it since it will help it to grow more quickly.

Was it a thunderstorm that damaged it?  I saw on the news you've been having some severe weather in your area.
