is my plant okay

Question
hi my question is : is some thing wrong with my carnivorous plant i have the octopus plant [sundew] it does not have any drops of glue or sticky stuff on its stems  can you tell me what is wrong.

Answer
Hello Gerald,

There are a few questions that need answering before any kind of diagnosis can be made about what is wrong with your Sundew.

How much light is it getting and to what intensity?

Has the plant recently experienced a drastic humidity drop?

What temperature is the plant kept in?

Is the plant producing new leaves?

What kind of soil and water is the plant receiving (kind and quantity)?

In general, Sundews stop producing dew when they do not have enough light (though other factors do relate as well). Sundews exude nectar and digestive enzymes in a glue-like substance from glands in the tips of their tentacles when they get enough light. Send me a follow-up with the answers to those questions so we can find out the exact cause of the plant's problem.

Christopher
