Carnivorous Plants- Science Fair

Question
Hi SNW,

Just had a question. I am in 10th grade, and I live in Shelton, CT, USA (USDA Zone 6). I was planning on growing the Cape Sundew plant as a science fair project, and testing if they type of bug they consume affects the angle of their tentacle curve. Will it work?

Answer
Hi Joe,

The Cape sundew is one of the best plants for science projects since they grow quickly, can be grown under controlled conditions easily such as fluorescent lights.  They also have no dormancy to worry about.  I'd recommend having different plants around the same size to do various tests on.  I think this will work just fine.

Good Growing!
