Question
I asked a question before about the worms in the 3rd floor Chicago condo and you asked me to post a photo.  I can't get my camera to upload for some reason, but  I am most certain they are millipedes.  I pick up at least 20 live ones a day, ranging in size from tiny maggot-looking ones, to bigger "mamas" (which are the ones darker in color).  I find them curled up dead under dressers, etc.    (And I save them in bags and it looks like they poop?)

Our landlord is insisting they came from a plant, but we see NO signs on the plants and we didn't have this trouble before we came to Chicago.  I think they must be coming from an outside source... perhaps vents or the fireplace or  something?    As I said, we're on the 3rd floor.  We do have a balcony.  This building is new construction and is still being worked on.   Any suggestions on where they might be coming from and how to treat safely as we have two small children, one still crawling.  (Imagine my upset over him crawling with these things all over the place with him on the floor.)

Thank you again!
Michelle

Answer
Michelle,

I'm afraid I can't give you a very complete answer without a picture. I need to know what these are. I doubt they are millipedes since I can't think of a way millipedes would invade an apartment on the 3rd floor. I'd suggest collecting a few and take them to a local university or Cooperative Extension office where someone can id them. Once we have a good id I'll be able to help you get rid of them. To find an Extension office google your zip code + "Extension".
