pollination of Nepenthes flowers

Question
Jeff or Jacob,

I have a male N. ventricosa and a female N. 'Deroose' alata and both of them are flowering. What is the best method to use to pollinate Nepenthes flowers? Do you guys do any hand pollination of your Nepenthes??

Thank you,

Answer
We don't have specific instructions on how to pollinate Nepenthes flowers.  We keep meaning to do a video podcast on it, but these plants flower infrequently.  Whenever we have a male and female plant flowering at the same time, we simply don't have the time to do the filming.  In general, if you simply rub the male flowers against the female flowers, you'll get some of the female flowers pollinated.  It's really that simple.  Nothing complicated at all.

Good growing!
