nepenthes repoting

Question
hello Jeff or Jacob i want to know is it really necessary to repot my nepenthes every year with new soil infact even repoting it. i know u have to repot the ones that use mostly peat moss because it breaks down. but why nepenthes. also i know u said repoting helps airate but cant u just do that by top watering. your soil mix  has moss and coconut bark  so what do nepenthes get from this soil mix also coconut bark looks like it takes a long to break down. thank u for your patance for reading this

Answer
Hi Shikhar,

Repotting with Nepenthes is more situational.  They can live several years in the same pot, and don't mind being somewhat root-bound.  You just have to look at your plant and see if it looks like it needs repotting.  I find size is usually what makes me repot a Nepenthes, or if the plant has been in bad conditions such as being kept too wet too long.

The yearly repotting rule is more for the bog species such as Venus flytraps, Sarracenia and sundews.

Good Growing!
