Cutting a cactus

Question
We have a cactus about 6 ft tall.  we have a section about 3 foot at the bottom that is dying and brown.  How would we go about cutting it and putting it in different pots.  It has about 6 different sprouts on it.

Answer
Dear Karen,

Make a cut about 4 or 5 inches above where the plant has died. If you see any brown or black spots, make another cut 2 or 3 inches above the previous cut. Continue this until you see no brown or black spots (make sure to clean the knife with alcohol between uses).

Let the cuttings heal for at least a couple of week before replanting. It may take a month or more to take root so be patient. Use a "cactus mix" type of soil and only water when the soil is dry. Keep out of direct sunlight, but in the brightest light possible. Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Greg
