impatiens: spotted yellowed leaves

Question
My potted impatiens are suffering from spotted yellowish green leaves with black spots with a yellowish dot center in only one of 3 pots on my deck.  2 pots receive the same amount of sun.  The others look beautiful.  What am I doing wrong?  The darker green leaves have these spots as well.

Answer
Judy,
These dots are leaf spot fungus - usually comes when the foliage gets damp frequently.  Perhaps the one pot does not get as much air circulation as the others.  In any case, water the pots in the morning, never at night - try to get the water into the pots only, not on the foliage.  Water well and then go back and water again to completely saturate the soil so it can go the rest of the day without watering again.  (this depends on how hot it is, of course - if it's very hot where you are you might have to water them again in the late afternoon...just be sure not to get the leaves wet.)

If you remove the spotted leaves, and be careful not to get the foliage wet, they can grow out of the problem, depending on how humid it is where you live.  (Humidity increases this problem.)

I hope this helps!
C.L.
