Dead branches on my Mimosa tree

Question
I have a 10x10 ft. Mimosa tree that has been in the ground for about 10 yrs. This year when all the growth started, One of the main branches seemed dead.It covers about 1/2 the tree. Lots of new growth on the bottem of the tree.I left it alone hopeing it would fill out later in the season,it hasn't. When should I cut it away? What caused it to do this? By cutting away this part of the tree it will seriouslly alter the shape of the tree, will it eventully fill in again? should I cut back the new growth at the bottem?

Answer
You can cut off a dead branch any time during the year. Being a hardwood tree is should re-grow new foliage and will fill in. It will take a couple of years to completely fill in.Cutting back the new growth will slow this process down and I would bot do that.
