Florist Gloxinia Post-Bloom Rest Period: Withhold Water, Then Repot

Gloxinia leaves curling/rolling under. No insects found. Owner asks cause.

Diagnosis: Mandatory Dormancy

Gloxinias (Sinningia speciosa) are tuberous. After heavy bloom, they enter a rest period: foliage dies back, tuber stores energy.

Protocol

1. Stop watering; let soil dry completely.
2. Store pot cool (60–65 °F), dark/dim for 6–9 weeks.
3. Repot tuber in fresh African violet mix.
4. Place in bright indirect light; resume watering.
5. New growth emerges; bloom cycle restarts.

Other causes (cold <65 °F, overwatering fungus) are less likely. The rest period is the #1 reason "healthy" gloxinias crash.
