Maple Leaf Has Light Green Spikes

Question
My maple leafs from one particular tree has pale green "spikes" coming out of them.  Is this a disease of the tree?

Answer
Hi Paula,                                                                   How r u?It sounds like u have a [Gall]!Which is when a insect injects a leaf with a harmone in its salivia! Most of the time it is done by a mite,orApid,orScale. It may look ugly but 4 the most part it does little 2 hurt tree. What u can do is get a good orgainic fertilizer with compost tea n humic acid.Apply as bag or box tells u to do.This will help counter act the slight stress and any way it is good 4 the health of tree.Next spring u can spray with a PREMETHIAN based insecticide to prevent this in spring 2 weeks after buds push out!/I would hold off on spray this year does not mean u will have galls next year!!Good luck!!Keep me posted!!Enjoy the last few hours of the long holiday weekend!!
