Lilac Bush Leaf Curl

Question
I have a lilac bush that looks great until it blooms, then the leave turn dark greenish/brown, dry looking and curl (toward the back of the leaf). I thought it might have been the water in NJ, but I don't think so. Tried fertilizing better, didn't work either. I am afraid to put anything else until I find out what it is.

Answer
Please do check the amount of water the plant is getting.  Check the soil around the base of the plant.  If you can squeeze water out of a handful of soil, then the plant is getting too much water, which may be causing root rot, which in turn is manifested by the browning and curlng leaves.  If this is not the case, the plant may have an insect infestation of some kind.  PLease respond with what you find.  Thanks.
