tiny white insects in soil

Question
I have planted a gladiolus corm in a pot that I keep in my house.  I used Miracle Gro brand potting soil.  I just noticed that there are many very tiny white "rice grain shape" insects that seem to be crawling in the soil.  they do not look like a larvae because they don't look like a "moist" insect, they look dry.  They also can jump very far.  I just want to know if they are harmful to the plant and how I can get rid of them, or are they just bugs living in the soil. thanks.

Answer
Not being an entomologist, I cannot tell you what insect you have.  I would try to eliminate them from my home however.  Malathion mixed at a 1% solution and poured on the soil will probably get rid of them.  They may be some kind of root chewing insect.  Do the treatment outside of course.  Good Luck.
