boxwood blues

Question
i have several boxwoods that are becoming infested with tiny white fuzzy spots only on the bark.  the spots eventually cover all the branches and kill the plant.  i thought it was a fungus but i scraped one off the bark of my plant and noticed it was moving and had fine cilia.  i have beautiful, mature, full, green boxwoods and am afraid i will need to replace them all if i don't figure out what's infesting them! help!

Answer
They are either scale or mealy bug insects.  Treat the plants with Bayer Advanced Tree and Shrub Insecticide.  The product is mixed with water and poured on the soil around the base of the plant.  It is taken up systemically and will kill the bugs within a week or so.  It also provides protection for up to a year.  This stuff works.  Good Luck.
