Amorphophallus rivieri

Question
QUESTION: I recently received an Amorphophallus rivieri as a gift and noticed some brown patches on the petiole and small white insects crawling on the roots (I repotted it). Any idea what this could be and how can I get rid of it? It is such a beautiful plant. Thank you.

ANSWER: Hi Monica.. I would use an insecticidal spry Like Neem or Organicide either will keep most bugs off your plant.    Be careful not to over water this plant as it will rot...

QUESTION: What are some non-chemical solutions? I would prefer not to use chemicals since this is a school garden. Thanks.

Answer
Hi Monica...Neem Oil is my favorite organic spray as it does not kill anything, it changes the flavor of the leaf so the bugs  go else where.  Read the label and make sure no poison is added.  The one we use at the nursery is 100% pure.  It does not wash off so you build up protection.  If you need to re-apply, you need only to apply to the new growth as the old does not wash off.
