Carpenter ants

Question
We have been advised we have carpenter ants in maple tree, I believe it to be a Silver Maple (possibly a Norwegein. Is there a cure or we predestined to lose it. There are healthy leaves through out the tree, but it is getting sparser. We see ants crawling on outside of tree and see some carving out at the base of the tree. Any recommendations to save this tree would be appreciated

Answer
There r tree spray companys that can treat for ants a few times of year and get the problem under control. Then id let them feed the tree this fall and c how it responds next spring. Before u do this have a certified arborist check tree to make sure it is safe!! this should cost about 90 to 140$ to spray and about 175$ to feed depending on size and arborist report could cost up to 150$$
