Indoor herbs disease

Question
Basil

Thyme
Thyme
Hi,

I am growing (well trying) to grow some herbs on a windowsill in my kitchen. However the plants seem to be catching the same disease over and over. The two most recent victims are thyme and basil. It started with thyme and now basil has it too. Leaves are getting this white/silvery areas with dark spots on them. I'd appreciate any comments. Thank you very much,

Agnes

Answer
Hi Agnes:

From your photos, the symptoms appear as an physical type injury, rather than an infectious disease.  There may be some insects present.  The leaves may need to be examined much closer to reveal the cause.  You may have a closer look with a hand lens or magnifying glass.  Check both sides of the leaves.  The damage may be caused also by a contact injury- so review anything that may have been sprayed or come in contact with the leaves.  Consider carry a few affected leaves to your local garden center or nursery for an opinion.  These folks see a lot of different afflictions and may recognize the symptoms and see a culprit.

Regards
Steve
