gardenia blossoms

Question
I have had a beautiful gardenia houseplant for about a month.  I'm now noticing that many of the buds are brown at the base and falling off.  The plant is beautiful but I believe that some holes and ragged edges are appearing on the leaves.  I've been watering it properly (I believe) and it gets bright light and sun just about all day.

Answer
Hi Sue..Bud drop, the abnormal dropping of buds, occurs during periods of high night temperatures or during periods of low light intensity. Some bud drop is a natural condition. Every effort should be made to keep the soil uniformly moist, but not wet, during flowering.

As for the ragged edges you may have a bug of some sort on it.  Wash it leaves with soapy dish water, if that does not help you may have to go to a stronger product.  I use Neem Oil Spray from Dyna Grow which is organic and does not wash off.  It will protect your plants inside and out.  kathy
