Black Spots on Trees

Question

DVP6O
I live in an area that has a spring running through the whole development. My side yard gets very wet when it rains. The trees that have black spots on them are in this side yard. I did buy an insect killer from local home improvement store and mixed it with water and placed it around the base on the bush in front of my house and it did to seem to stop the leaves from falling off. I'm attaching a picture of the leaves. Some of them have black splattered all over and some have just large brown spots. Can you tell me what is causing this?

Answer
Hi Barbara:
Good Morning!  I took a look at your photo, but unfortunately, it is not in focus. Can you resend?  Try taking a closeup of the spots that you are concerned about.  Review your photo on your computer before you attach it and send. Are the same spots on different trees?  I doubt if the running water is related to the spots, but I'll try to ID if you can send a closer image that is in focus. Do you know the type of trees that have the spots?
Thanks

Steve
