Coral bark japanesse maple...

Question
Hello, I am here to describe my dire problem, ok, here goes:
Some 30 days ago, I re-potted my maple and I found half-dozen worms, I replaced the soil and disposed of worms. But, 2 weeks ago, tips of the branches started going black and leaves fell off. The tree is about 4 years old, and was fine the year before just up until re-potting. As it is, the tree stands in the same place as before, in shaded area and has enough sunlight. Please tell me what should I do...
Cheers

Answer
Jovan:
I suspect that the worms may be incidental. If the darkened tips are throughout most of the tree, I suspect some other stress related probably to the roots. Maybe too much or not enough water, nutrition or even a tight root system in the pot. You can snip off the dead portions of the branch tips and discard.  Be sure the pot drains well and there is plenty of room for the roots to expand if you intend to keep it in the pot for a long time. I suspect the stress is temporary, but keep a watchful eye on the status.  Tip death w/ leaf drop is often associated with a root problem.
