White scaley looking things on my Meyer Lemon Tree

Question
I have a Meyer Lemon Tree in a pot......It grows fine outdoors...I have to overwinter it indoors as I live in Little Rock, Arkansas. We have freezing, snow, etc.  While indoors it gets strange little white fluffy looking things .  They  have a "hard looking" top on them that is outlined in black...kind of like a shield looking thing.
I have moved it outdoors and have found some...I can scrape them off, but am concerned they will damage my tree. What in the world is it and how can I treat it?  Sincerely, Shirley Peard Alstadt

Answer
Hi Shirley.

Sounds like an insect-- maybe scale.  Contact our local county Extension office in LR 501-340-6650 and arrange to bring in some of these twigs or leaves with these critters on them for an ID. Talk to Beth Phelps. There are several insecticides that may help--but you need to get a positive ID first
