droppings around potted ficus tree

Question

ficus droppings
Greetings,

I am mystified by droppings I find each morning all around my potted ficus.  The tree is about 5 feet tall and is situated on a second floor covered patio.

The tree is healthy, no damage to leaves or trunk.  I will attach an image of the droppings.  They number around 20-50 each morning, and are about 1/3 inch in diameter and are slightly oblong.

Any light you may shed on the matter is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time and attention.

Answer
Elizabeth:
As I mentioned, look for a caterpillar type critter. Check also at night since it may be hiding in the day. Look for any chewed or partially chewed leaves.  Several insecticides available for these types of insects such as BT or Dipel.
Regards
Steve
