Spiders... I think...

Question
Hey there. I really hope you can help me. Since spring we have had a problem with spiders on the exterior of the house. They seem to be everywhere. I looked them up online to find they are some kind of weaver. The are absolutley disgustingly huge and gross. We have sprayed and we cant get rid of them however, thats not really the problem b/c we may just get an exterminator out here. Here is the problem... they are starting to come inside the attached garage. They are particularly bad in one corner of the garage (near the ceiling) and there is some sord of nest in the corner. I noticed it and had my boyfriend take a look at it. He said it was a hornets nest but after looking them up I dont think it is. It is a medium brown color slightly smaller then a tennis ball. It is attached to the ceiling and wall. Before he tries to take this thing on himself (as he said he was going to do) can you maybe give me an idea of what it is? Is it related to the spiders? I appreciate your time.

Answer
actually spiders are quite beneficial. i wouldn't kill them outside the house. i would take a broom and knock down their webs to encourage them to move elswhere. inside i would kill them. most spiders have venom. even though it wouldn't kill you, it could hurt.
the nest could be a spider egg sack. could also be a mud wasp nest?sounds like it could be numerous things. there are millions of bugs out there, so w/out seeing it i can't be sure. send a digital photo(jpeg format) to [email protected]. put bug ID on the subject line or i may not open it.....
you could also take a dead one in a plastic bag to a local garden center/nursery for them to examine. i'm in southern NJ.
