Question
My mother lives in Salinas CA, and has been having problems with nocturnal
animals under her house.  They are keeping her awake at all hours, and she
is at wits end.  She's hearing crying sounds and scuffling sounds.  She had a
trapper come out to work on the problem, but the man did nothing he said
he would do (use dogs, set up a motion sensor camera, show her the animals
he claimed to have "trapped").  He then sent her a $500 bill, of which she
paid half.  He's threatening small claims court, meanwhile the problem has
not abated in the slightest.  She has had someone else out to look at the
problem, and apparently, nobody can figure out where the animals are
getting in or out of the crawlspace.  Could you offer any suggestions 1.) How
best to remove the animals and 2.) How to find a legitimate professional to
address this problem.

I can't help you find an exterminator.  I do make electronic deterrents that should get the critters to move on elsewhere.  You can find out about them here.

You would put the deterrent outside in the yard where they must come and go each night.

Keep looking for that entry to close after they are moved. Place a cut apple near the entry to prove they are no longer around. If it stays, they are gone. All crawl space critters are apple lovers.  They often have habit trails and you might see the grass matted down.
