The two "bugs" in the photo washed out of my dog during a bath. He had been acting as if he were being bitten on his back legs for about 2 weeks. Our vet could not find anything. After a bath on Saturday, he was calm until Sunday night when we sat out in the backyard, then it all started up again. The apparent biting is worst at night, and we are getting little sleep.

Answer
Sue,

I can't see these clearly enough to id. However, fleas and a few mites are the only insects/"bugs" that usually bite dogs and cause itching. I think something else may be causing the itching and these two critters just happen to have washed out of the fur. If you can get a clearer image I'd be glad to take another look but I really think the itching is not related to insects or mites. Sorry I can't be more specific.

BTW, when our dog "contracted" an itchy skin aliment it eventually (after months of searching) turned out to be a food allergy. Now she only gets fish-based food - no more skin problems. Just a thought.
