dollarweed

Question
What kills it dead. I live in the panhandle of FL. and I have tried all kinds of stuff (scotts ,image and off brand stuff) two years ago some what I call small dollarweed started to grow looks the same as dollarweed but smaller leaf and short stem (grows like a carpet) This last year the dollarweed took off now its everyplace in mass quantities. What will kill it once and for all I'm ready to just kill the whole yard if need be. I know it will only come back so I haven't done that due to the expence

Answer
Dear Scott:

I'm referring you to the Clemson University website with a specific page for Dollarweed. Dollarweed is often confused with dichondra. One way to distinguish the two is by looking at the placement of the leaf stem. Dollarweed has a stem located in the center of the leaf while dichondra抯 stem is located at the edge (pictures are shown comparing the two types on the web page).  Roundup concentrate is a sure killer of Dollarweed, however it will also kill adjacent plants, so use with care!.....If you chose the Roundup; suggest buying the concentrate and mix it yourself to reduce overall cost.

The Clemson University Home and Garden website page for Dollarweed is:

Good luck in your quest to rid your landscape of this terrible weed!!
