Ondontoglossum

Question
I received this orchid when it was in bloom.  The flowers have fallen off about a month ago and a new shoot is growing.  There is also a little part on the stem near the bottom that looks like a flower will bloom. Should I trim the stem and will a new stem come out of the baby shoot? The shoot is about 2.5 inches long.

Answer
Hello Josette,

Without actually seeing the stem growth, it is hard to say what it might be.  My advice would be to be patient and wait 2 to 4 weeks to see if it does develop into a new flower.  New shoot growths will slowly grow over the next 4 to 5 months and should be fully matured by fall, they will be the source for new flower stems next year.

Hope this helped.
