acidifying soil for a container grown blueberry bush

Question
Hi,,,I am growing Blueberries in cobntainers in SouthWest Florida and cannot find commercial Acid Potting Mix in any of the stores here; I know that Spaghnam Peat Moss mixed with normal PH soil at a rate of 1:3 will work, but is there a better mix I can concoct?...thank you Nick

Answer
You want to get a pH of 4.5.   You can add soil sulfur - can be used to lower pH in an alkaline soil, and is a stimulant for soil microbial life. Use it sparingly and add it in the fall and let it set over the winter before planting or the new seedlings will encounter the acid which will result in diminished plant growth.

The better choice would be calcium sulfate (Gypsum) which not only lowers the pH, but also adds calcium and you can plant right after adding it to your soil.
